A group of sheriffs from counties on the southern border of Texas say they’ll need more manpower and jail space to move forward with the directives laid out in Governor Greg Abbott’s border disaster declaration. The sheriffs made their needs known to the Governor Saturday during a border security roundtable at the state Capitol. Abbott said he heard them:

Sheriffs from 11 counties met with the governor to discuss carrying out his plans, announced in Del Rio in June, to arrest and jail undocumented immigrants on charges of illegal entry and trespassing.

None of the sheriffs from the four counties in the Valley participated in the roundtable. The briefing was held as lawmakers met in their special session which includes more border security funding as one of the issues.
