Governor Greg Abbott is proposing a major property tax-cut platform ahead of the 2026 midterms, when he’s up for reelection.

Abbott’s plan calls for eliminating school property taxes for homeowners, putting tighter caps on how much property values can rise, and making it harder for city and county governments to raise taxes.

Several Texas House lawmakers have expressed support for the governor’s platform. Some prominent conservative groups like the Texas Public Policy Foundation and Americans for Prosperity are also on board.
