Governor Greg Abbott is asking the US Treasury to suspend the tax-exempt status of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Abbott sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday, asking for an investigation into CAIR and the suspension of their status as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit.

Last month, Abbott designated CAIR as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. So far, Bessent hasn’t responded publicly to Abbott’s request.
