Governor Abbott has signed a new anti-human smuggling bill into law.  Abbott traveled to South Texas yesterday to sign SB-576, a bill authored by McAllen state Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa.  Abbott told reporters that the new law increases penalties on traffickers, especially if they do it for money or are carrying a weapon.  He also tied the law to drug smuggling by saying traffickers will sneak drug dealers into the U.S.  Abbott said he spent some time with McAllen officials before the event to talk about the city’s future needs and economic development goals.
