Governor Greg Abbott is commenting on the election of Zohran Mamdani as the mayor of New York City. In an X post on Tuesday, Abbott said: “Join me for a moment of silence for NYC. Thoughts & prayers.”
Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa on Tuesday. Abbott had joked on X the day before: “After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC.” The federal government imposes tariffs, not the states.
