A former Donna police sergeant has been granted bond following his arrest a week ago in a drug trafficking case. A McAllen federal magistrate set a $75,000 bond for Alejandro Martinez Sr. The veteran officer was arrested last Tuesday following a 4-month DEA undercover investigation and had been in federal custody since.
In a criminal complaint reported on by the McAllen Monitor, federal prosecutors detailed meetings between Martinez and a man posing as a drug trafficker.
In secretly-recorded conversations, Martinez is heard agreeing to provide safe passage through Donna for a vehicle carrying a load of cocaine, in exchange for a payment of $1,500. Martinez is formally charged with drug conspiracy and drug distribution.
