The ACLU is condemning President Trump’s latest executive orders targeting birthright citizenship.
One order restricts birthright citizenship involving children of foreign diplomatic staff, children of people classified as alien enemies, and children born in U.S. territories.
The other order bans citizenship to children born of mothers who entered the U.S. for the sole purpose of having a child here.
The Supreme Court this year struck down Trump’s earlier effort to restrict birthright citizenship as spelled out in the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. The ACLU called it a fundamental constitutional protection.
