An appeals court says Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton lacks the authority to require local district attorneys to share prosecutorial data with him. A three-judge panel on the 15th Court of Appeals issued the ruling on Tuesday.

The ruling upholds an earlier decision by a Travis County district judge who temporarily blocked rules that gave Paxton access to the office records of urban district attorneys. Some of the D-As sued Paxton in May in an effort to overturn the new rules created by Paxton’s office.
