More than 200 people in Colombia have died after yesterday’s magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked the country. The epicenter was roughly 200 miles west of the capital city, Bogota, with reports it could be felt in parts of Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the Trump administration is “closely monitoring” the situation. Rescue efforts are underway to find survivors who may be trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings. Officials estimate more than 27-hundred people are missing.
The country’s newly-elected president, Abelardo de la Espriella, who has been in power for less than a week, has declared a state of emergency.
