The Border Patrol is setting up rescue beacons in the Big Bend area of Texas near Mexico. The beacons are meant to help cut down on the growing number of fatalities among migrants there.

The beacons are installed atop 30-foot tall, solar-powered towers which allow people who get stranded in the desert to press a button and alert authorities to rescue them. One beacon alone in Presidio County has already saved at least ten lives.
