A House bill requiring Texas hospitals to report how many illegal immigrants they treat every year is a non-starter.
A parliamentary challenge from a Democratic lawmaker kept the GOP-backed measure from making it through the House on Tuesday night. Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order last year for hospitals to report on illegals among their patients.
House Bill 2587 would have codified the order into law. Representative Trey Martinez Fischer of San Antonio blocked the bill by raising a “point of order” based on a technicality.
