Bill To Curb Governor’s Powers During Pandemic Dies

A bill to curb the governor’s powers during future pandemics won’t make it to the governor’s desk this time. A committee of members of the Texas House and Senate missed their deadline at midnight Saturday to issue their compromise report on the measure.

The initial House version of the bill applied only to emergency powers during a pandemic. The Senate version included declared natural disasters such as hurricanes and winter storms.
