A couple of bills in the Texas Legislature are intended to enable the construction of a high-speed rail line from San Antonio to Dallas. State law prohibits TxDOT from getting involved in efforts to build high-speed rail in Texas.

Two Austin Democrats have filed bills, one in the House and one in the Senate, to require TxDOT to partner with a private company to build the rail line along the I-35 corridor through Austin. The Republican-led Legislature has usually opposed passenger rail projects.
