Bond Set For 2 Women Following DEA Raid On McAllen Beauty Supply Store

A second woman has been granted bond following her arrest last week stemming from a drug smuggling and money laundering investigation targeting a downtown McAllen beauty supply business.

The McAllen Monitor reports a magistrate set bond at $100,000 for 62-year-old Maria Estela Suprise during a detention hearing Monday in McAllen federal court. Suprise and a colleague, Yolanda Pena, are accused in a criminal complaint of using South Tex Beauty Supply to hide the profits of illegal drug sales. Pena was granted a $50,000 bond last week.

The women were arrested last Tuesday following a more than 2-year undercover investigation headed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
