Cameron County Applies For, Receives Schwarzenegger ‘Democracy’ Grant


Cameron County has been awarded a more than $250,000 grant to expand voting capabilities for the November elections. The grant comes from the USC Schwarzenegger Institute, and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself logged on to the online Cameron County Commissioner’s meeting Tuesday morning to announce that Cameron County is the first recipient of his Democracy Grants Initiative. Schwarzenegger called the grant an investment in democracy and said he’s proud to provide the money:

Cameron County commissioners say they will use the funding to open and operate two supercenter polling places where up to 24,000 residents can safely cast their ballots.
