Cameron County has approved the construction of a new SpaceX facility near sand dunes on Boca Chica Beach. County commissioners voted 3-1 to approve the air separator facility on Tuesday.
The facility will include 20 buildings, including a tower that will be about 15 stories high. The factory will separate air into nitrogen and oxygen that can be used to launch SpaceX vehicles. The proposed facility will be located about 300 feet from the dunes on the beach.
