A grim coronavirus-related milestone has been reached in Cameron County. Public health officials say the county’s COVID-19 death toll hit 2,000 on Wednesday following the deaths of 4 more patients.
One year ago at this time, Cameron County’s death toll stood at 1,100. Cameron County’s 2,000 COVID deaths are the seventh-most in the state. Hidalgo County’s COVID death toll stands at 3,484 – the fifth-highest in Texas.
Statewide, 71,722 Texans have died after contracting the coronavirus since March of last year.
