Cameron County Judge Says It’s Still Too Soon To Lift Mask Mandate

Saying not enough residents have gotten their coronavirus vaccines yet, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino is extending the county’s mask-wearing mandate for another month.
Trevino has signed another extension to the public health emergency order that was first issued in March of last year when the coronavirus was first confirmed to be in the Valley.
As of Friday, about 69 percent of Cameron County residents 65 and older, and 46 percent of residents 16 and older, were fully vaccinated. But the county’s public health department notes dozens of people a day continue to be infected with the coronavirus, and several residents a week continue to die from COVID-19.
