Tensions over trade appear to have reached a boiling point between the U.S. and Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is “at war” with the U.S. after trade talks collapsed with the Trump administration. He says retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. will begin September 8th in response to the administration’s new 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods.
The new U.S. tariffs impact about 20-billion-dollars worth of Canadian imports. While Carney says his government takes the step reluctantly, in a post on Truth Social Sunday, President Trump wrote that Canada wants the “benefits of being a state, without being one,” adding that the country has charged American farmers massive amount of tariffs for many years.
