A Gulf Cartel underboss escapes custody after his capture in Reynosa. The Monitor reports 27-year old Jose Hernandez escaped Tuesday when armed men showed up and broke him out of the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s office.

Hernandez was captured Monday by members of the Tamaulipas Special Operations Group. He was scheduled to go before a judge Wednesday. Officials in Tamaulipas say Hernandez directs the Gulf Cartel’s drug and human trafficking operations near Highway Two south of the Rio Grande from La Grulla in Starr County.
