Anyone who fires a gun during a celebration could now face a misdemeanor charge in Progreso. A new ordinance banning celebratory gunfire went into effect this week.

Mayor Hugo Gamboa says the new rule was proposed due to rising reports of gunfire within the city limits. Violators who are caught by police could be fined up to 500 dollars.
