U.S. Rep. Chip Roy won’t be replacing Rep. Liz Cheney as the Republican Conference Chair in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans removed Cheney from the position last Wednesday, and Roy made a last-minute attempt on Friday to replace her. He lost by a wide margin to Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who had the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

Roy is a two-term Republican from Hays County whose district includes parts of Austin and San Antonio. He had argued he was more conservative than Stefanik.
