Cities, counties, and public agencies in Texas are enacting policies to enforce the state’s new “bathroom bill,” which took effect on December 4th.
Senate Bill 8, also known as the Texas Women’s Privacy Act, requires people to use only the public restrooms, locker rooms, and similar facilities that are meant for their biological sex.
Supporters of the law say it protects women’s private spaces. Opponents say the absence of clear guidelines on how to uphold the bill will result in uneven and ineffective enforcement in different places.
