The city of Lake Jackson is accepting responsibility for the death of a six-year-old boy killed by a brain-eating amoeba.
Josiah McIntyre died last month after the amoeba was found in his home, a nearby fire hydrant and the city’s splash pad, where it had originated.
Assistant City Manager Modesto Mundo says it was able to grow because the city’s water had low chlorine levels. The boil-water order was lifted a few days ago, and the water is now safe to drink.
