CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is telling students at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley that he is optimistic about their generation and young people in general.

Cooper took part in a virtual discussion with students and faculty Saturday night as part of the college’s distinguished speaker series. The newsman spent about 90 minutes talking about his life and career and answering questions from those watching the live-streamed event. He told those who want to be journalists that the most important skill they can learn is listening, saying it’s more important than ever in a country as divided as the United States.
