More than 1 in 10 coronavirus tests in Texas have come back positive over the past week. That’s according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. Additional data provided by the Texas Department of Health Services show there has been a 50 percent jump in the number of Texans in the hospital with COVID-19 in the past month.
The department also says there is now limited capacity in intensive care units in El Paso and in the Panhandle. The data also show the COVID-19 death toll in Texas has reached 21,309. That includes 3,414 people in the 4-county Rio Grande Valley.
Hidalgo County continues to have the second highest death toll in Texas. Cameron County has the fifth highest.
