Brownsville school trustee Sylvia Atkinson will go on trial next Monday on charges contained in an 8-count corruption indictment.
A federal jury was selected Friday for the case in which Atkinson is accused of using her influence to coerce cash payments from school district contractors in exchange for ensuring school board approval of the contracts. Atkinson will stand trial on charges of bribery and conspiracy.
The 49-year-old Atkinson was arrested in December of last year. At the time, she was a little more than halfway through her first term as a Brownsville school trustee.
