Senator Ted Cruz says Zohran Mamdani is “the new face of the Democratic Party.” The self-described Democratic socialist was elected mayor of New York City last Tuesday, defeating a GOP candidate and former Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani promises free city buses, universal child care, frozen rents, and a higher minimum wage. He says he’ll lower the cost of living by raising taxes on corporations and the wealthiest New Yorkers. Cruz and other Republicans point out that schemes of this nature have never worked before.
