Customs agents bust a human smuggling stash house in Starr County. A Customs and Border Protection statement this week says the house was raided Monday evening by CBP Rio Grande Valley Sector agents.
Forty-three-illegal immigrants held against their will in the stash house in Rio Grande City were saved. The immigrants are from Mexico and several Central American countries.
The immigrants had no personal protective equipment against COVID-19. They were packed into the house like sardines sleeping on inflatable mattresses strewn around in every available space including in the garage. Two unaccompanied minors were among the immigrants who were rescued.
