Some Rio Grande Valley farmers will be getting money from the federal government to help them deal with a lack of water for irrigation.

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the 1944 Water Treaty Agricultural Assistance Program on Friday in Mission.

Nearly two-thousand approved applicants will share 280-million dollars under the program. Farmers who applied for the program should start seeing checks on Wednesday.
