There is a deadly scene unfolding at the U.S. Capitol. It began around 1:15 pm Eastern when a man rammed his car into barricade outside the Capitol, hitting two police officers. The man reportedly jumped from his car with a knife and was shot by police.

The officers and the suspect were transported to the hospital where the suspect died. DC National Guard troops were quickly deployed to the Capitol to assist police.

The Capitol and surrounding office buildings were immediately put on lockdown. Security has been significantly enhanced since the deadly January 6th riots. The House and Senate are not in session this week.
