A Texas death row inmate is getting a new trial. The Court of Criminal Appeals vacated Clarence Jordan’s death sentence, sending the case back to Houston for a new sentencing.
The 70-year old had been on death row since 1978 for the murder of a grocery store worker. But, since his conviction, it was revealed that he has an intellectual disability, making him ineligible for capitol punishment. His attorney says the case shows “a troubling truth” of the criminal justice system
