A GOP senator is succeeding in softening the punishment for members of the military who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas on Wednesday managed to add language to the bill that funds the military. It now says service members booted for refusing the vaccine must be honorably discharged or discharged under honorable circumstances.

The change in language means service members who are discharged for refusing a direct order to be vaccinated would still be eligible for most of their military benefits.
