Former US Representative Chris Bell of Houston is the latest Democrat to run for Texas governor in next year’s election. Bell announced his candidacy on Tuesday in front of the Texas Capitol in Austin, attacking what he described as Governor Greg Abbott’s “corruption.” A
Abbott announced his bid for a fourth term on Sunday. Bell served one term in the US Congress representing southwest Houston more than 20 years ago. He’s also run unsuccessfully for Texas governor, the Texas House, the Texas Senate, and twice for mayor of Houston. He joins four other Democrats who seek to unseat Abbott in 2026.
