DPS Pursuit Ends In Deadly Wreck In Starr County


A Mexican national remains jailed on a charge of murder after a passenger was killed in a truck crash in northern Starr County that happened during a pursuit by state troopers.

Troopers began chasing a Ford F-150 last Friday morning after the driver didn’t pull over for a traffic stop. The high-speed chase moved south on FM 755 before the pickup driver lost control and the truck rolled just north of FM 1017 in La Gloria.

A passenger, also a Mexican national, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver, 23-year-old Francisco Arzate Avilez, was taken into custody and charged with murder, along with detention resulting in death and evading arrest.
