Early Voting For Local Runoff Elections Has Begun

Early voting has begun for three local runoff races – one month after the November 3rd elections. Voters are going to the polls again in San Benito, Rio Hondo, and South Padre Island.

In San Benito, they’ll be voting for a new mayor – either Ricardo Guerra or former mayor Celeste Sanchez. Guerra finished first in the 3-person race but well short of the number needed to avoid a runoff. Current Mayor Benjamin Gomez finished out of the running.

In Rio Hondo, Mayor Gustavo Olivares is fending off a challenge from Nelda Lopez. Olivares finished just short of avoiding a runoff.

And in South Padre Island, councilwoman Alita Bagley is facing off against Lydia Caballero.

Early voting for the runoff elections runs through December 15th. Election Day is Saturday December 19th.
