Edinburg Asks Hidalgo County To Freeze Property Valuations

The Edinburg City Council wants Hidalgo County to freeze property tax valuations to help property owners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The council unanimously approved a resolution yesterday asking the county’s Appraisal District to freeze valuations and extend deadlines for paying property taxes.

The city’s mayor said residents fear that a big increase in property values this year could add to the financial worries brought on by the pandemic. The mayor also said he plans to speak to leaders in other cities about the proposed freeze.
