By The Edinburg City Council will rename part of Sugar Road to honor former college baseball coach Al Ogletree.
The area between University Drive and Schunior Street has been designated as Coach Al Ogletree Way. Ogletree coached the University of Texas-Pan American from 1969 to 1997, winning over one-thousand games and leading the team to 12 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Texas-Pan American became the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in 2013. Ogletree was 89 years old when he died in 2019.
