A former correctional officer at the federal detention center in La Villa is now a federal prisoner after being sentenced in a bribery scheme. 33-year-old Jhaziel Loredo has been sentenced to more than 2 years in prison for smuggling illegal and prescription drugs into the East Hidalgo Detention Center for inmates there. He was paid cash bribes by the inmates’ families. Loredo had pleaded guilty to the corruption in March.
Loredo was one of six now-former employees of the detention center to have been arrested. The facility holds people who’ve been detained by ICE and U.S. marshals.
