A member of the McAllen City Commission is scheduled to be in federal court today for a bond hearing.

Rodolfo “Rudy” Castillo surrendered to federal agents on October 3rd after he was charged with money laundering and smuggling goods out of the United States. He was accused of paying an undercover agent more than 20-thousand dollars to have used clothing smuggled into Mexico.

Castillo was originally given a bond of 100-thousand dollars with a ten-thousand-dollar cash deposit. Federal prosecutors appealed that decision, leading to today’s hearing.
