The first candidate to announce a bid to replace Attorney General Ken Paxton is already out of the running.

Former US Attorney John Bash was a special assistant to President Donald Trump in his first term. He announced his withdrawal from the race on Wednesday, less than three weeks after entering into the attorney general’s race.

Bash stated on social media that a family health scare had caused him to change his priorities. Paxton says he plans to challenge incumbent US Senator John Cornyn in the GOP primary.
