Former Member Of Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Pleads Not Guilty To Theft

A former member of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office previously convicted on federal drug charges is pleading not guilty following a theft investigation. Jose Padilla waived an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday by entering a written plea of not guilty.

Pharr police arrested Padilla last year on multiple counts of credit or debit card abuse, theft of property, engaging in organized criminal activity and forgery of a financial instrument. The former HCSO commander served three years in prison after being convicted of taking money from a drug trafficker following his arrest in 2013.
