Two closed North East ISD schools will soon be turned into police training facilities. District officials say Wilshire Elementary and Driscoll Middle School closed because of declining enrollment.

The vacant schools will be leased by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the Alamo Area Council of Governments, to be used for training purposes.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says most of the training will be in classrooms. County Commissioner Tommy Calvert says a school building is an ideal place to prepare officers for a school shooting.
