Progreso’s former mayor has been sentenced to spend nearly four years in prison after pleading guilty to federal drug trafficking charges.

Jerry Alanis appeared in U.S. District Court in Brownsville for sentencing Thursday. Alanis admitted to being part of a conspiracy that shipped cocaine from Progreso to Houston when he entered his guilty plea in February.

The judge sentenced him to 46 months and ordered him to report to prison by August 22nd.
