Former U.S. UN Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad says the U.S. goals were basically achieved in combating terrorism but failed in creating a democratic society in Afghanistan.

Speaking on CBS’ Face the Nation, Khalilzad said it’s unclear if the Taliban knows where the leader of Al-Qaeda is, but the Taliban members he dealt with told him they didn’t know. He added the fight in Afghanistan wasn’t going America’s way and the White House decided the loss of life was not worth it.

Khalilzad noted the Biden administration inherited the Trump plan to leave the country they chose not to make any changes.
