Four Republican candidates are in the running for Texas attorney general. The current office holder, Ken Paxton, is challenging GOP US Senator John Cornyn instead of running for reelection.

State Senator Mayes Middleton of Galveston is an oil and gas executive who is paying for his own campaign. US Representative Chip Roy of Austin is also in the running, along with Aaron Reitz, Paxton’s right-hand man, who has Paxton’s endorsement.

State Senator Joan Huffman of Houston rounds out the roster of candidates in the first open primary for the state’s top lawyer in more than ten years.
