Gov Abbott: Schools Must Stay Open Unless Outbreak Occurs

Governor Greg Abbott says Texas schools will be opening for the fall semester. Abbott issued a statement Friday saying schools can only close if there’s a coronavirus outbreak once students return.

The announcement supports the Texas attorney general’s opinion earlier this week stating health officials can’t order school closures. But districts can apply to keep their schools closed and those requests will be reviewed by the Texas Education Agency.
