Group Claims Seven-Billion-Dollar I-45 Project Discriminates Against Black And Latino Residents Of Houston

A local justice group claims the Texas Department of Transportation project proposed for I-45 around downtown Houston is discriminatory against minorities.

A representative for the Greater Houston Coalition for Justice says the North Houston Highway Improvement Project would displace primarily Black and Latino families from their homes, moving them away from their own businesses.

The group has filed a complaint under Title Six of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Meanwhile, the multi-billion-dollar project is already on hold after Harris County sued, saying TxDOT needs to take into account residents and the environment and how the project will affect them.
