By Hidalgo and Cameron counties will take part in a statewide test of local alert systems Thursday.
The Texas Department of Emergency Management has scheduled the exercise to test the effectiveness and functionality of local alert notifications.
Area residents may receive messages from several alert systems on their cell phones during the test. The exercise will happen between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
