Hidalgo County Health Authority Urges Vaccination After Newborn Dies From COVID-19

Hidalgo County’s health authority is urging pregnant women to get vaccinated after a newborn died from COVID-19.

Dr. Ivan Melendez announced yesterday that the child was 11-days old when it died from the virus.  The mother tested positive for COVID-19 before the child’s birth, and the newborn contracted the virus after she was born.

Melendez told The Monitor that those who are pregnant or who are thinking about pregnancy should get the vaccine in hopes of avoiding future pediatric deaths.
